It’s never been highly publicized, but Atlanta’s famous OK Cafe eatery in tony Buckhead is named in honor the OK Cafe in Harper Lee’s classic “To Kill a Mocking Bird.”
May you and the customers at the OK CAFE have many great meals coming to you!
When the beloved Lee died last month, The New York Times and The Atlanta Journal-Constitution gave her the due she deserved, including a Page One story. Had I been on the story, I would have headed straight to OK Cafe and shared the note and interviewed DeRose.
We know AJC reporters know about the framed note and how to get in touch with DeRose and her partner, Richard Lewis. The leading paper in the Deep South provided extensive coverage of another artifact that hangs on OK Cafe’s walls – the artists rendition of the former Georgia state flag, which incorporated the controversial St. Andrews Cross used by the Confederacy in battle.
